Barbados: A Jewel of the Caribbean

When you think of Caribbean islands, you think of luscious sands, crystal clear waters and pure heaven on earth. That could also be a perfect description of Barbados. This island is situated to the south east of St Lucia, and it truly is a paradise. If you love nothing better than sunbathing on a beach, then you’ll love Barbados and the plethora of beaches it offers you. The best one of the lot is arguably Miami Beach. The American sounding name is an alternative to its other name, which is Enterprise Beach. But whatever name you want to call it by, you should know that it is stunning. It is everything you would expect of a beach in Barbados. The great thing is that you shouldn’t find it too overcrowded during the week, although it can be a different story at the weekends. It comes well equipped with everything you might need during a day at the beach too, such as outlets to buy food and people to rent beach umbrellas from, as well. If you think that a holiday in Barbados is built just for sunbathing, think again. If you fancy getting a bit more active, why not take a look under the sea? The waters here are very clear and they cover a lot of delights underneath them. Snorkelling is a very popular pastime here, and you can book yourself onto a tour that enables you to go snorkelling in some of the best spots on the island. You might also see the turtles, and there is also a shipwreck located just off the island that many people dive down to see. If going underwater doesn’t appeal, there is plenty more you can do on dry land too. There are some notable sights to see inland of the beaches, and they can often give you a different perspective on the island. For example, the Morgan Lewis Sugar Mill takes you back to a time when Barbados was responsible for a large output of sugar. The Mill has been lovingly and carefully restored so that you can see exactly what it would have been like when it operated at the height of its use several centuries ago. You can go underground to see another of the sights in Barbados, which is known as Harrison’s Cave. This stunning limestone cavern is quite something, and perhaps somewhat surprisingly it has been open to visit since just 1981. You can book your flights to Barbados (http://www.britishairways.com/travel/flights-to-barbados/public/en_gb) and your accommodation ahead of time, of course. Don’t forget that you can also book some tours before you go on holiday, this way you’ll be prepared to see the best that Barbados has to offer.
