Many people who go on an Aruba vacation are likely to go one another one.
Tourism officials say that Aruba has the highest rate of return vacationers of any destination in the Caribbean region. Anyone who has visited Aruba more than once might say they go back for a combination of reasons rather than just one.
Palm Beachis known as one of the best beaches in the Caribbean. It not only is covered with fine white sand and numerous palm trees, but it also has the advantage of a strip of top hotels and outdoor restaurants that make J.E. Irasquin Boulevard a favorite nighttime spot.
Accessibility is another plus. Anyone landing at Queen Beatrix airport will take about a 10 minute drive by taxi to the capital of Oranjestad if they are staying there. Eagle Beach, another popular destination, is another five minutes beyond Orangestad, and Palm Beach lies just beyond Eagle.
The airport, the capital and the two major beaches are connected by the island’s most important road, L.G. Smith Boulevard. Inexpensive public buses drive up and down Smith throughout the day, making it easy for vacationers to go shopping, find entertainment and visit other beaches.
The island has a low crime rate by Caribbean standards, so vacationers take advantage of the transportation system to find land activities across the rugged island, such as ATV, horseback and jeep rides.
But because Aruba is so arid, the most popular attractions tend to be water sports. In addition to sailing, kayaking and jet skis, Aruba is known for snorkeling and especially for scuba diving because of nearby shipwrecks and massive corral formations.
A final reason for the island’s high return rate is the Aruba weather. Aruba lies to the south of the Caribbean hurricane belt and experiences less rain and bad weather than most other destinations, although it does not entirely avoid the impact of nearby storms and hurricanes.
